Gina McCabe sworn in as 14th District state representative

Standing before her family and friends, Gina McCabe, R-Goldendale, was sworn in as the newest 14th District state representative on the steps of the Klickitat County Courthouse. She is the first person to be elected to the state Legislature from Klickitat County since 1982.

Retired Judge Ross Rakow, also from Goldendale, administered the oath of office. McCabe swore to “uphold the Constitution and laws of the United States of America, the Constitution and laws of the state of Washington, and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of the office of a Washington state representative to the best of my ability.”

“I have always been passionate about civic involvement and giving back to my community, and now I am looking forward to the opportunity to do that by serving in the state Legislature,” said McCabe. I have a business background, but my goal is to be well-rounded in working on the issues which affect the people I represent, such as education funding, water storage, state regulation oversight, providing access to health care for rural Washington and others shared with me while I traveled the district. While there are many challenges before the Legislature, I'm ready to be part of the solution and to bring the voice of the Fourteenth District to our state capital.”

McCabe is taking office earlier than other incoming freshman legislators due to the resignation of former 14th District Rep. Charles Ross. She will serve on the House Business and Financial Services Committee, the General Government and Information Technology Committee, and the Labor Committee in the upcoming session.

“Being a small business owner for more than twenty years, the Business and Financial Services and Labor committees are a perfect fit for my background. As a new lawmaker in Olympia, the learning curve is steep, but I expect to be familiar with many of the issues that will come before us in these committees,” McCabe said. “I want to urge constituents to stay in contact with me during session. I am in Olympia to serve them and their input is important to me.”

In Olympia, McCabe can be reached at (360) 786-7856, and her e-mail address is Letters can be sent to her office at: P.O. Box 40600, Olympia, WA 98504-0600.

The 2015 legislative session is scheduled to begin Jan. 12.
