Rep. Gina McCabe and Yakima County Republicans to host Yakima listening tour Jan. 6

Rep. Gina McCabe, R-Goldendale, along with Yakima County Republicans will be hosting a community event in Yakima Jan. 6 to meet with constituents about the upcoming legislative session. This event is part of McCabe's recent region-wide listening tour, which includes stops in Skamania and Klickitat counties.

The details are as follows:

When: Wednesday, Jan. 6 from 5:30 – 7p.m.
Where*: Breakfast Sun Room at Best Western Plus Ahtanum Inn
2408 Rudkin Road
Yakima, WA 98903
Light refreshments to be provided.
*Located off I-82 at the Valley Mall Blvd exit.

“As the 2016 session rapidly approaches, I wanted to make sure constituents have the opportunity to ask questions and share their ideas and concerns as lawmakers head into the 2016 legislative session,” said McCabe. “This session promises to be a busy one as we work to address a number of key issues, such as K-12 education funding, steps to recover from our most recent drought and deadly wildfire season, as well as addressing the latest issues with our justice system and Department of Corrections. Everyone is invited, and I look forward to seeing new and familiar faces alike!”

During the meeting, McCabe will also discuss her legislation she has drafted for the new year, including the Travis Alert Act, which would help first responders better identify the needs of persons with autism and other disabilities in emergency situations. The idea was given to her after she was contacted by a Yakima constituent who is the mother of a child with autism.

“The best ideas really do come from constituents, and holding tours like this is just one more way I can gather ideas to be an advocate for our communities.”
