Rep. Gina McCabe appointed to assistant ranking position on House business committee, also receives Council of State Government appointment

Rep. Gina McCabe, R-Goldendale, was recently appointed to serve as the assistant ranking member of the House Business and Financial Services Committee by House Speaker Frank Chopp.

The committee considers issues related to licensing and regulation of businesses, insurance, state banks, credit unions, as well as consumer protection issues.

“I am very honored to receive this appointment. One of the reasons I chose to run for office was to put my extensive business background to work finding ways to help make companies successful,” said McCabe. “I am confident I can add a different dynamic and perspective to the conversation on business issues. The business community throughout our state face many challenging issues.”

She has owned and operated various small businesses for more than 25 years, including an award-winning community performing arts studio and hotels.

“Working in the hotel industry for many years has given me an understanding of creating a budget, being accountable and real-world experience in business and economics,” said McCabe.

McCabe was also recently appointed to the Council of State Governments – West, Public Safety Committee. CSG – West is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization serving state legislators of both parties in 13 Western states.

The committee expects to be looking at strategies for dealing with the high cost of incarceration, operating a new prison, indigent defense standards, and private contractors versus government employees in the public safety sector.
