McCabe bill to lower fines for mobile home parks passes House labor committee

Today, Rep. Gina McCabe's bill to decrease penalties paid by mobile and manufactured home owners passed the House Labor and Workplace Standards Committee unanimously.

Currently, a $1,000 fine is imposed on owners who fail to have a certified installer install or supervise the installations of mobile or manufactured homes. House Bill 1329 would lower that fine to $250 for the first infraction. Subsequent infractions would not be able to exceed $1,000.

“When I first ran for office, I made a commitment to working on solutions to foster business growth and reduce burdensome regulations,” said McCabe, R-Goldendale. “This is a common-sense bill that prevents owners from being fined out of their business while ensuring appropriate installation standards are met.”

The legislation was requested by the Department of Labor and Industries.

The 2017 legislative session is scheduled to adjourn April 23.
